Tips for Travelling with Kids
Traveling with children of any age can be quite an adventure in and of itself, here are a few tips to help make the adventure a fun one, and not a stressful one.
Number one, scope out the airport as well as Airport Parking, many airports now have meet & greet parking that is close to the airport which is important when traveling with small children. Heathrow Airport Parking and Gatwick Airport Parking both have parking lots like this. Glasgow Airport Parking also has short and long stay parking lots that are close enough not to be difficult when pushing a stroller or guiding luggage and children around. If you have a plan, and are able to at least loosely follow that plan, it will make things much simpler.
Number two, call ahead to the hotel concierge to find out about local kid friendly events. Most hotels keep brochures, dates and addressees handy for all sorts of local events. So you will want to make sure that prior to vacation or upon arrival to obtain all the information available. Often times, concierges can make reservations, purchase tickets and even provide transportation around the city which will save time and frustration. Some hotels also offer babysitting services for evenings when you'd like to have a night on the town.
Number three, don't expect your kids to love the same attractions and museums that you do. They should experience all that a vacation has to offer. Culture, the arts, food, but also through in a few kid friendly attractions for a well rounded vacation.
Number four, food and water, treks around a new town can be tiring and thirst and hunger inducing. It's often wise to keep a bottle of water and a snack or two handy to stave of the hunger pains. Keeping everyone hydrated when in a new climate or sea level is always wise. And be sure to account for naps and rest times as needed. It is a sure fire way to ensure everyone is happy and healthy while on vacation. There's nothing worse than feeling down and out while trying to enjoy vacation.
Number five, give yourself enough time, enough time to get to reservations and enough time to make it to scheduled events. Children are a blessing and a cause for learning to be adaptable to any situation. To save yourself a lot of stress and frustration, plan ahead and be flexible with your plans.
